From Stage to Screen: Translating Intimacy
The camera sees what the audience in row M cannot.
Theatre intimacy is communal. Screen intimacy is private. The same scene played in both rooms is two different scenes.
Close-ups, shallow focus, and withheld reaction shots can achieve the same emotional resonance as a whispered aside in the theatre — but only if the writer designs for the medium, not against it.
Adapting your own work is a kind of grief. You let one version go so another can begin.
